West Morris Central Boys’ Soccer Minutes of Parents’ Club Meeting held Feb 4, 2007 Attendees: Chris Goodyear, Connie Stoll, A.T. Soares, Barbara Kaplan, Nan Guarini, Tony Germinario, Pat Guarini, Dorothy Palme, Laurie Hessels, John Diaz, Lourdes Brady, Sue Ellen Daquila, Kathy Taylor, Sue DiSalvo, Roberta Diaz, Renee Weinstein The meeting was called to order by Chris Goodyear at 7:35 pm. President’s Report: Chris Goodyear stated that the main purpose of this meeting is for the senior parents to hand over the club to the upcoming senior and underclassmen parents for us to take over the club and carry on as we see fit. The senior parents will continue to be available to us for consultation as needed. Treasurer’s Report: Tony Germinario stated that we have $5,024.80 left in the account with no outstanding bills. (This amount is $600.00 over what we budgeted at the beginning of the year.) We began the year with $7,365.39 and ended with $5,024.80, after having spent $3,400.00 on new uniforms. The objective was to build the account up so that we always have enough for a major purpose. The treasurer’s report gives us a good indication of the types of things the club focuses on. In a general discussion about fundraising, Tony brought up the following points for us to keep in mind going forward: The money we raised through membership paid for much of our costs. Membership is our #1 fundraiser. We will have less inventory in clothing this year, so we probably will not make as much here as we did last year. Regarding the away-game sub sandwiches, we need to remember to account for the sandwiches that we subsidize. As a club, we need to determine how much money we need for what we want to do and how much we want to leave behind us. So far, we have no large-purchase recommendations. Some possibilities mentioned were new warm-ups and to think about when we would again want to purchase new uniforms in order to more quickly pass down uniforms to the JV and Freshman teams. Note: We will need to go to the bank with a copy of the official minutes stating who the new club officers are in order to transfer the signature on the account over to the new treasurer. Committee Reports: Clothing: We need a new clothing provider. We have some ideas for contacts. One idea mentioned is that Chris Marold is a teacher whose Mom does this. Laurie Hessels said she has a connection for clothing whom she will check with for pricing. March/April is the time to get going with choosing colors, styles, etc. Coach has a meeting with the 8 th grade parents and players in May, and we would want to have samples, order forms, and pricing available by then. Pat Guarini informed us that Carol (who has done all of the clothing for us in the past) will continue to do the game-day polo shirt for us if we wish. Banquet: We have booked the Wyndham Garden Hotel again for this year’s banquet. However, the contract is not yet signed, so we can discuss this if anyone has any other ideas or preferences. The date selected for the banquet is November 23, 2008; we are hoping to avoid conflict with the date of the girls’ banquet. Away-Game Sandwiches: The suggestion was made that Flanders Bagels could be a choice to keep in mind for away-game sandwiches instead of the sub sandwiches we did last year. Kick-Off Picnic: We have spoken with Maria Summereau, and the picnic date has been set for Friday evening, August 29, 2008. Concession: We have one night game, during which we will have the concession stand. The possibility exists that we may need someone with a food handlers license (depending upon what we plan to sell). This will be discussed in more detail later. Car Wash: This is a fundraiser which we do together with the girls’ club. We will need to contact Burger King at the beginning of the season for an available date. We will need pressure washers. We will get together with the girls’ club to see who is running it for them. Photography: The idea was brought up that we could consider hiring a company to take pictures for us. One suggestion made is to check with SportpixNJ.com; another suggestion that came up is the yearbook company. We will need to discuss this further. Website: We are hoping Dave Kavanaugh will stay on keeping up the website for us. We will check with him on this. Before moving on to the new business of the club, the senior parents were asked to leave us with their best advice. Their response was to be open and inclusive, to include everyone and have fun working together, and to assign tasks to younger members in order to have a more natural transfer of knowledge. Chris Goodyear expressed his wish that our sons benefit from the work of the club as their boys have. New Business: Club Officers: Connie Stoll was nominated and seconded to be the President. Barbara Kaplan was nominated and seconded to be the Vice President. Renee Weinstein was nominated and seconded to be the Secretary. Dave Kavanaugh was nominated and seconded to be the Treasurer. Connie, Barbara, and Renee accepted their nominations; Dave was not present to accept his nomination. Class Representatives: Cameron Esemplare and Laurie Hessels will be the Senior class representatives. Barb Kaplan will be the Junior class representative. Sue DiSalvo will be the Sophomore class representative. We will have a presence at the meeting Coach has with the incoming freshmen to get a Freshman class representative and contact information. Committees and Chairpersons: Fundraising – Dorothy Palme Picnic – Connie Stoll and Amy Prue Clothing – Kathy Taylor and Denise Magnussen Membership – Roberta Diaz Concession – Car Wash – Photography – Away-game Sub Sandwiches – Banquet – Cameron Esemplare and Laurie Hessels (Senior parents will be committee helpers.) Summer Camp: The boys will attend Bucknell University’s soccer camp this summer. The dates are July 13 – 17, 2008. This camp is for sophomores, juniors, and seniors; this is a good opportunity for the boys to come together and bond as a team. The camp registration form and $100.00 deposit are due to Connie Stoll by Friday, February 15. Information pertaining to the camp is on the website. Monthly Meetings: Connie Stoll will contact Maria Summereau at the High School to see when we can schedule our monthly meetings. In the past, they’ve been held on Tuesday nights, but several people expressed an interest in moving them to Monday nights. An e-mail will be sent informing everyone of our next meeting date. The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 p.m.
